"Coup de Foudre" Photoshoot

Written by Jana Hanzel Wednesday, 11 April 2012 00:39

Before showcasing our Coup de Foudre collection at the Ottawa fashion Week (February 2012), we wanted to have our collection professionally photographed. In collaboration with the photographer Marc Lavoie (http://www.marclavoiephoto.com/) and models from the Cover Models (https://www.facebook.com/viresh.pujara?__adt=2&__att=iframe) styled by Noah Venkatarangam (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=500256134#!/FacesByNoah) we created 6 nicely finished images for our press release.

When the rush from the Ottawa Fashion Week was over we had more time to play with the designs and we were just in a mood to create some more artistic images capturing the collection. The photographer Eric Mercier put his creativity into transforming the model Jenna Nesbitt (Angie's Models, https://angiesmodels.com) into an aristocratic Baroque beauty. With the makeup and hair designed by Ariana Assadi (https://arianaassadi.com) our mission was accomplished.

"Jana & Emilia Fashion design Studio" would like to thank both teams for putting their time and effort into those photo sessions!

Please enjoy the result - picture 1-6 photographed by Marc Lavoie, pictures 7-22 photographed by Eric Mercier:

Royal Wedding

Written by Jana Hanzel Friday, 29 April 2011 16:00

I am very happy that I've managed to wake up early this morning, to be able to watch the royal wedding. People who know me can tell that I'm not hysterical about events such that but in this case I really don't regret losing these extra 3 hours of sleep!

The royal couple looked magnificent! As a designer, let me express a few thoughts about the wedding dress. It's been very pleasant to see Kate Middleton's selection of the dress from McQueen's atelier (by Sarah Burton). The dress was very elegant, there was just right amount of lace used and the whole dress looked very nicely balanced, not overdone. I think it suited Kate very well and emphasized the image of her as elegant, yet young and modern woman. I love the choice of long sleeves - it's more formal and, quite frankly, very refreshing after seeing everywhere the overexposed bodies dressed in gown revealing as much as humanly possible. The wedding dress with sleeves also offers much more fun with design, it looks smarter, more put together and sophisticated, even - yes, let's say it, royal. The opposite of "a-girl-next-door-is-getting-married"- kind of a dress. Even dressed in a gown with sleeves, our bodies delicately covered in layer(s) of sheer fabric and lace look very attractive, chic and high class in a dignified way.

The other thing that couldn't be missed during the wedding ceremony was the ominpresence of hats of any size (from those small fascitator hats to bigger and even fancier ones!). How gorgeous and appropriete ,well, in most cases! We are living in times when hats are quietly dissappearing from our wardrobes. And what a pity is that! Again, people who know me would agree that I love hats and I consider them "the cherry on the cake". A hat completes the outfit and makes it look put together and special - for the wearer and the audience as well.

For the people who share this thought with me I have a good news: The royal wedding style hats are available from my studio - let's start a new wave of elegance and class!

The conclusion - I loved the entire ceremony, it was beautiful and modern. The new couple is really charizmatic and they bring a breath of fresh air to the monarchy!

Panache

Written by Jana Hanzel Monday, 28 February 2011 21:41

Hello Ottawa !

We'd like to announce a great news for all the smart and business-savvy women! The designer team Jana Hanzel and Emilia Torabi developed a new stylish fashion line just for you. If you are tired of wearing all those black or navy-blue strictly business suits we are bringing some fresh breeze into your wardrobe! As designers with a lot of clients working in government,  we are seeing  the same uniform style over and over again. And we know that you are often not very happy about it but sometimes it's hard to break the habit. That's why we've got an idea to make a life more easy and more colorful for you. We believe that women should show off more of their femininity and still look professional and respectful. Hence our  new fashion line called Panache - to address business women and introduce more color and timeless style into their work wardrobe. To make them feel well dressed, and feel their confidence radiate through their clothing.

We want to attract the whole range of business women, from their early 20s, who are just starting their professional career to all of you experienced women in higher business possitions. We want to offer a "9 to 5 clothing" choices with a possibility to continue with a fancy diner after work.
We also want to show you a selection of coats in interesting colors to break up the black uniformity and anonymity. We believe that everybody can express their personalities through the clothes and have a little more fun with dressing up.

Please stay tuned for more info! The collection will be revealed during the Ottawa Fashion Week, on March 18, 2011 at the National Gallery. We are now working on the first pictures of the collection which will be published shortly.

Meanwhile, this is some more info about our creative designer team:

12 years old Kate Reeve organized a fabulous fashion show!

Written by Jana Hanzel Tuesday, 22 February 2011 14:57

Sunday early afternoon in Glebe Community Center the air was filled with positive energy, hope and good will. The 12 years old girl, Kate Reeve, organized a benefit fashion show with proceeds going 100% towards children hospices here in Canada - The Rogers House and The Canuck Place.

Kate found me on the web and approached me to collaborate on the beneficial fashion show. I didn't know she was only 12 years old, the email communication was very mature and responsible. Then we met to discuss the details of the runway and I wanted to offer some accessories for their silent auction as well. I met her (and her mom) at Starbucks in Kanata and I was very surprised that such a young girl took this load of organizing a fashion show. (I organize fashion shows myself so I know what it's involved). She was well informed and dealing with everything with adult-like approach. I've been impressed!

Why I wanted to collaborate on the event:

I was raised in a lovely family, had a happy childhood among my closest relatives.  But I don't take these things granted, I really appreciate what I've got from life and I know that my story doesn't have to be a common pattern and that many children (or families) are not that privileged like I've been.

My parents are very good, quality people and they tought me that I always have to start from myself and show a kindness and appreciation to other. And now, I am myself a mother of 2 and I want to show that I really do care of other's well being, I want to show my support and offer my heart in some way. I know that I cannot save the world but I try my small part. Those kids and their families was, from some strange (an unknown to us) reasons, not that lucky in life so I want to show that there are people who are not oblivious to their destiny and want to help.

This show is not about me as a designer - it's about us as human beings. I want to do my small part and raise some money for those families and kids. So, supporting this idea is my goal. Also, the fact, that I've been approached by 12 years old girl was very interesting to me and every day I'm more into it :-) I really respect Kate for what she is doing and for the way how she's doing it! Brave girl with big dreams!

The show was a great success, the models from Angie's walked gracefully for all the designers!  The creative hair styling was provided by Hair Junkie Hair Salon. Make up was provided by different local make up artists.

Thank you all for such a wonderful and meaningfull event!
